General Infomation

Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation successfully received Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAP) status on the 14th September 2007. The Nation now has legislative powers to manage and protect their cultural heritage under the Act.

The Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (the Act) recognises Aboriginal people as the primary guardians, keepers and knowledge holders of Aboriginal cultural heritage. At a local level, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) are the voice of Aboriginal people in the management and protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage under the Act.

RAPs have responsibilities relating to the successful management of Aboriginal cultural heritage. These include evaluating Cultural Heritage Management Plans, providing advice on applications for Cultural Heritage Permits, decisions about Cultural Heritage Agreements and advice or application for interim or ongoing Protection Declarations.

To learn more on the tasks performed by RAPs visit the Aboriginal Affairs website or contact Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation on (03) 5869-3353.
